The art of natural Pearl drilling has been done in India for centuries. The city of Basra, in present-day Iraq was the main trading centre for the natural pearls found in the gulf between Qatar and Bahrain. These natural pearls became known as Basra Moti (Pearls of Basra) throughout Asia. In the 18th to 19th centuries the natural pearl trade in Asia shifted its centre to Bombay The name for natural pearls stayed throughout South Asia and the Middle East as Basra Moti to this day. Olkaan Nishtah creates heirloom pieces with natural pearls from across the world. We use only traditional methods of cleansing, drilling and setting.
